Amy Newfield, MS, CVT, VTS (ECC)

 Amy is the owner of Veterinary Team Training and author of the award-winning books, “Oops, I Became a Manager” and “Oops, My Team is Toxic.” Amy is focused on growing veterinary leaders and providing topnotch veterinary education. She boasts 26 years of experience ranging from general practice, emergency, government work, private, corporate, and leadership roles. She has been lecturing for over 19 years, won 3 speaker of the year awards and always gets rave reviews for her energetic, humorous and engaging approach to topics. Amy has worked with translators in 5 countries and lectured in over 13 different countries

 

            

Lecture Topics Include:

  • Medical Mistakes: How to avoid, and some common ones
    • Mistakes happen.  Let’s talk about some of the common mistakes made and how to avoid mistakes.  How to handle the mistake is equally important. 
  • Think Like a Technician, not like a doctor (critical thinking nursing skills)
    •   This lecture focuses on a skill that human registered nurses are taught in skill and one that our veterinary technicians and assistants must know to provide the best care to the patient. 
  • Too Hot, too Cold
    • This lecture reviews two common emergencies-hyperthermia and hypothermia. Technicians will understand what both syndromes are, complications and treatment. 
  • Seizures!
    • This lecture talks about why seizures can happen, diagnostics involved and treatment.  Numerous videos are shown so attendees can truly understand all stages and types. 
  • Diabetic Emergencies
    • Attendees will leave understanding why diabetes occurs and the emergencies that can follow. DKA, hypoglycemia and hyperosmolar nonketonic diabetes and the treatment and nursing care of these pets will be discussed. 
  • How to make the vet profession a lifelong career.
    • Currently the veterinary profession is struggling. Hospitals are short staffed, turnover is high and the veterinary profession has one of the highest suicide rates of any profession.  Let’s talk about 3 key ingredients needed to make it a lifelong career.

1:00 – 4:30 PM: Afternoon Lectures (with breaks)

Online participants will be asked to check in and participate in interactive polling throughout the day to confirm attendance. Failure to participate may result in ineligibly to receive CE credits.

Please not this conference is not RACE approved but is accepted by the VVTA for continuing education credit. Members of other state associations should confirm acceptance of these CE credits. VVTA approved CE is typically accepted by other NE associations, but it is the members responsibility to confirm this.
