VVTA Membership FAQs

Who can join the VVTA?

The VVTA offers membership in the following categories:

  • Certified Veterinary Technicians (CVTs): Those who have graduated from an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program and passed the VTNE.
  • Non-CVT members: Those including veterinary assistants, receptionists, animal care staff, and others working in the veterinary field.
  • Student members: Those who are currently enrolled in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program.
  • Advisory members: Grated to DVM or other professional to act as a liaison to the VVTA Board
  • Complementarily:  Granted as a courtesy for supporters or partner organizations by the VVTA board.

How much are the dues?

Dues are set by the VVTA Executive Board and are paid annually (January 1 – December 31).

  • CVT Members: $50/year
  • Non-CVT Members: $25/year
  • Student Members: Complementary

What are the CE requirements for CVT members?

CVT members must complete 18 continuing education (CE) credits every two years to maintain certification.

  • No more than 6 credits may come from on-demand online sources per 2-year period.

How do I apply for CVT membership?

You’ll need to complete our membership form and:

  • Upload proof of graduation from an AVMA-accredited program
  • Upload proof of passing the VTNE
  • Pay annual dues

How do I apply as a non-CVT or student member?

We welcome all veterinary staff and industry professionals to join our organization! 

To apply as a student member, you must complete the following application and upload proof of enrollment. Student membership is free for the duration of your enrollment in an AVMA approved veterinary technology program.

Can I lose my membership?

Members must renew their membership yearly and pay annual dues to remain active. Any member who does not complete renewal will no longer to certified or a member of the VVTA.

Membership in the Association may be revoked for any reason detrimental to the ideals of this Association by a majority vote of the members present at a called meeting, the responsible notice, or by a unanimous decision of the Executive Board.

What can I do with my membership:

CVT members shall be grated the title of Certified Veterinary Technician, and shall be afforded all rights, responsibilities, and privileges pertaining to that designation in their professional practice.

Both CVT and non-CVT members:

  1. May vote and hold elected office.
  2. May serve on committees.
  3. Shall receive all publications from the VVTA.
  4. Received discounted admission to VVTA events
  5. Shall receive additional VVTA/VVMA discounts when available.

Student member shall not vote or hold office but may serve on committees.
